By Finer Tech Newsletter • Issue #73 • View online
The sun has begun gracing Chicago, dear readers. I took my first ride of the season into the loop (12 miles!) earlier this week when it was over 60!
I’ve also spent these last couple weeks collecting some great tip across iOS 14 and macOS Big Sur, so I’m excited about these new few issues. As they say on YouTube, let’s get into it!
I’d love to hear your thoughts about this issue on MastodonTumblrMicro.blogTwitter, or email. If you know people who would enjoy my newsletter, I’ll owe you a beverage if you recommend it to them.

📱 Mail: Drag with two fingers to quickly select multiple messages
Need to triage multiple messages in Mail on an iPad or iPhone? Tapping the Edit button is so yesterday. Simply drag two fingers up or down the message list to instantly trigger edit mode and select every message you drag across.
📱 GIFWrapped can search your library and the web for that perfect response
I like using GIFWrapped from Daniel Farrellyto curate my library of favorite GIFs and responses. Of course, my library will never be completely, so when something new, GIFWrapped can search the rest of the web.
It’s a seamless transition, too. Whether or not a search in GIFWrapped surfaces anything from your library, you can press Search to find more options from the web. Tap one, and you can save it to your library from the menu in the lower left. No need to bounce out to Safari or another app.
Bonus tip: GIFWrapped also has an app extension for grabbing GIFs from other apps. It’s one of my favorite features!
📱 GoodNotes 101: Double-tap new to quickly create a new notebooks
It bypasses all the choices available for new docs, enabling you to get straight to note taking and sketching. This trick uses the defaults you picked in settings.
📱💻 Right-click a Safari tab for sort, closing options
You can sort tabs by name or website URL, close all tabs but the one currently selected, and even copy the URL.
💻 A trick to more easily organize, access your screenshots
I found this one via the ever insightful Dan Hon on the Twitters:
  • Create a dedicated folder for your screenshots besides Desktop. Press Cmd + Shift + 5 for the new screenshot tool, then go to Options > Other Location
  • Drag that folder from Finder to the right side of your Dock, near Trash
  • Right-click the folder and under View Content As choose either Fan or Grid
Now, you can easily share those screenshots by dragging them from the Dock folder into apps.
